Lilies and Microwaves

September 5th is  the anniversary of the microwave oven  and it is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.  Its history is outlined here.  It was called the "radarange" and the person who made the discovery was Percy Spencer, an engineer with Raytheon.  He was using a magnetron, and melted the candy bar in his front pocket.  Then he pointed it at a raw egg and exploded it.  Then he went for popcorn kernels and popped them up.  Microwaves heat up the water molecules in food.  The article concludes:

"
But you can't call yourself a real cook unless you've ruined a meal or two in the microwave. As they saying goes, there's no such thing as a mistake in the kitchen, just a new recipe waiting to be born. Think of it as your chance to add a page to the now 50-year-old history of the little electromagnetic box that could."

We look at a lovely combination - a Ranunculus and Water Lily at the Denver Botanical Gardens.

Canada's Star Aligns

CBC is having fun today reporting that Justin Trudeau has taken over the first spot as the sexiest politician in the world according to the UK Mirror newspaper.  It picked up these quotes from well-known national reporters in other countries:

"In Canada Justin Trudeau's Liberals elected on a platform of sorry I lost my train of thought he's just so handsome."

"For real though, congrats Canada on your hot grown-up-Howarts-student Prime Minister."

In the Daily Mail article, they include a Youtube video of the 'time Justin Trudeau stripped for charity".

And this quote from Richard Nixon in 1972:

'Tonight we'll dispense with the formalities. I'd like to toast the future prime minister of Canada: to Justin Pierre Trudeau,' said Nixon during a state dinner in Ottawa hosted by Pierre Trudeau.

With the pictures in the article of him with his father in world-famous places with world-famous people, it is pretty impressive.  So I guess with star power like that, some starry flowers are matching pictures for the day.

Water Lily with Friend

Digital photography can be a challenge and a privilege.  I was able to bring two images together for this Water Lily with Friend image.  The water lily is at Longwood Gardens Water Gardens and the Koi lives at the Royal Botanical Gardens.  So these two botanical gardens could be brought together through the techniques of photo manipulation.
